Turo

It’s easy to feel disconnected from people these days. We’ve been hearing from all around the Turo community about how people are staying positive and productive during isolation by making the best of their situations and being generous where they can. Staying connected through the separation, even virtually, has proven powerful for keeping spirits up. So we caught up with some of the wonderful members of Team Turo to reconnect and see how they’re staying busy.

What’s a dream road trip you’d like to take?

I would love to take a road trip around the western part of the US and see as many national and state parks as possible. My boyfriend and I recently bought a truck bed camper and a Dodge Ram 2500 with a Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. We’ve been modifying both for tiny living and hopefully someday we can make it happen!

Quarantine entertainment recommendations?

I loved the Dirty John true crime podcast. You can listen to the podcast first, then binge the Netflix TV series based on it!

Any new hobbies you’ve picked up?

I was already a mountain biker, but I’ve been hitting the trails a lot more often since quarantine. I’ve found a bunch of new favorite spots in Arizona. Luckily most of the trails are still open to the public and are safe as long as you don’t congregate at the entrances.

What car(s) do you share on Turo?

I have two cars listed on the platform, a 2014 Nissan Xterra and a 2019 Toyota Tacoma!

What was your first car?

A hardy 2005 Fiat Punto named Giselle.

What’s your dream car?

A vintage Mini Cooper from the ‘90s. We used one to shoot Turo’s UK launch video. Here is a behind-the-scenes shot of Xavier, Turo’s UK director, and myself after we discovered replicas of the Italian Job’s blue overalls in the boot (trunk)…

What’s the best place you’ve ever visited?

Yosemite. The UK team and I took a trip in three brightly coloured convertibles from San Francisco to the national park in July last year. During the daytime we hiked around the park, taking in the scenery and working on our tans. In the evening we’d cook up some calories on the campfire at the Airbnb.

What is your favorite car-related movie?

“Senna.” It’s a documentary directed by Asif Kapadia about Ayrton Senna, the Brazilian F1 world champion.

What was your first car?

My first car was a used burgundy Plymouth Acclaim! I’m looking at pictures of it online and it feels so dated now — the late ‘80s vibe really comes through! You know you have a cool car when you can’t tell if you’re inside or out because the interior color is the exact same as the body. I learned to drive in it and had it during my junior and senior years of high school.

What’s the best road trip you’ve been on?

One of my favorite road trips was with a Polish friend of mine, Pawel, in the Tuscan countryside. We really hit it off during a study abroad program, then traveled a lot together in Poland.

Quarantine entertainment recommendations?

I have been making lots of homemade pasta during this quarantine, and the best way to avoid it feeling repetitive is to get creative with your sauces, instead of just making tomato sauce all the time. So, here are three very different sauces I have been experimenting with to give my pasta dishes some diversity:

What’s the best road trip you’ve been on?

The best road trip I’ve taken thus far was from San Diego to Portland, Maine! We took a southern route across the country and then all the way up the east coast.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

Photography, specifically concert photography. I am frequently found at concert venues, with a camera in a hand. I have also taken photos for a number of Turo hosts to help make their listings shine!

Quarantine entertainment recommendations?

Podcasts: I’ve really been enjoying “Lead Singer Syndrome” with Shane Told and “Bad With Money” with Gaby Dunn.

Shows: “Money Heist” and “Ozark” are two on my list to watch the new seasons of! But also can’t go wrong with reruns of “New Girl.”

Any new hobbies you’ve picked up?

Biking! Just after the shelter in place was announced, I ended up ordering a bike and put it together at home. It has been so wonderful to be able to get out of the house for exercise with it and explore parts of SF that I haven’t been to.
