Turo will match your donations

In observance of this year’s Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day, Turo is partnering with the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, a nonprofit and the largest independent hunger-relief organization in San Diego County, for our Drive Change food donation program.

Beginning May 16, Turo is hosting a virtual food drive to honor San Diego’s military community — past, present, and fallen. We invite you to donate and support this deserving cause — Turo is pledging to match up to $5,000 in donations from our community. Did you know every dollar donated provides enough food for two meals? With matching donations from Turo, your impact will be doubled.

San Diego, a popular Memorial Day weekend destination famous for beautiful beaches and sunny weather, is home to several military bases and a huge active duty service community. The San Diego Food Bank serves 400,000 San Diegans each month — 39,000 of whom are military personnel, families, and veterans, making the Food Bank a vital resource for all San Diegans facing food insecurity.

Honoring our San Diego military community

A recent survey conducted by Turo showed that nearly one in five surveyed Turo hosts and guests in the US either actively serves, has served, or had family in the military. And hosting has proved an invaluable resource for a large portion of the Turo community affiliated with the military. Out of all surveyed US Turo hosts who serve, have served, or had family who served, 43% said that without Turo, they would have to make significant changes to their budget. Meet a couple of our veteran Turo hosts in the San Diego area!

Darline, a host since 2021, is a retired Air Force veteran and busy mom of two. When she’s not hosting or chasing her kids around while her husband works as a Border Patrol agent, she’s putting in hours as a part-time nurse. Darline refers to her all-white portfolio of cars as her “Fleet of Angels.”

Warren, hosting since 2023, believes that “Jeep and California go together” (he shares a sweet Jeep 4xe out of Bonita). After serving in the US Navy for 22 years, Warren started a career as a real estate agent, helping other veterans buy homes. When he’s not volunteering serving his fellow veterans, he’s growing his Turo business to help support his wife and three step-kids.

How can you help?

Turo will match your donations, up to a total of $5,000 through May 31. No amount is too small — every $1 donated equals two meals to a San Diegan in need, including active duty military members, veterans, and their families, who deserve our support.
