Making lifelong memories

Debra was 63 when she was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma — an aggressive form of brain cancer that gave her the challenging prognosis of just about 12 more months to live. The Minnesotan then took on the mission of filling the rest of her time with experiences she still wanted to have. One big item was clear — to see her son’s Seattle-based band play live for the first time. Cancer treatment costs would make the trip very difficult to achieve, so she searched around for help and discovered Dream Foundation.

Dream Foundation serves terminally-ill adults and their families by fulfilling end-of-life Dreams that offer inspiration, comfort, and closure, connecting volunteers and partners with Dream recipients to create memories that families will always cherish — a wonderful mission that Turo is honored to support.

Since Turo and Dream Foundation first partnered in 2019, we’ve collaboratively facilitated 239 “Dreams” like Debra’s, with 92 accomplished last year alone. Over half of these Dreams require travel of some kind — Turo is very pleased to be able to help facilitate these experiences for folks like Debra, and is heartened to witness how cars can be a catalyst for hope and joy.

Debra had never seen her son Dan play before a crowd, so Dream Foundation and its partners stepped in to help realize that Dream. She attended Dan’s live performance and celebrated his album release in Seattle — a moment of joy amidst life’s toughest trials.

We invite you to watch this touching short film, shot by award-winning filmmaker Jeff Harasimowicz, following Debra’s journey. It’s a story of hope and togetherness that demonstrates the warmth of connection.

Turning Dreams into reality

Dream Foundation, with its unwavering commitment to supporting terminally-ill adults, orchestrated Debra’s trip with help from Turo and other partners, demonstrating the impact that compassion and collective effort can have in bringing light to the lives of those facing life’s most daunting challenges.

In this case, the Turo Executive Support Team worked diligently to source local hosts in Seattle, who played an important role in ensuring Debra could travel comfortably and cherish every moment of her experience.

How to get involved
