Who said a staycation means staying in? British Columbia boasts some of the most scenic spots in the country and they’re perfect for a socially distanced vacation in the fresh air. Book a flashy car, pick up your favourite people, and take off on one of these breathtaking BC road trips.
See the Sea-to-Sky Highway

Got a day? Got three? Spend a weekend cruising along Highway 99, more delightfully known as the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Along the way, you’ll be treated to spectacular views of the mountains and oceans. Plus, you can learn about the area’s First Nations history by stopping at one of the Cultural Journey kiosks dotted along the route.
Rediscover the Fraser Valley
If you live within driving distance of the Fraser Valley (and half of British Columbians do!), it’s time to rediscover this local treasure. Tight on time? Opt for a two-hour, mini road trip from Vancouver to Hope. Feel like an adventure? Explore everything in between. You can visit the provincial parks, go paddling, or get a workout by taking your mountain bike through a nearby trail. The choice is yours!
Cruise along Vancouver Island
If you live on the BC mainland, good news: BC Ferries is back up and running! Make Vancouver Island one of your summer staycation destinations. Just be mindful of BC Ferries’ guidelines, like wearing a mask and social distancing from passengers. Did you know you can drive your car directly onto the ferry? No need to arrange separate mainland and island transportation.
Trek to Tofino
And by trek we mean drive. Obviously. This trip will take you up through the charming towns of Vancouver Island before cutting an east-west line from Parksville to Tofino. Get some retail therapy in the boutiques of Ladysmith. Take a walk along Parksville’s boardwalk. Pop into the Alberni Valley Museum in Port Alberni. Check out Canada’s first collect-and-release aquarium in Canada in Ucluelet. When you’re ready, roll into Tofino for the last stop on your Vancouver Island journey.
Navigate the Pacific Marine Circle route
This is one of the most popular road trips on Vancouver Island, and this summer, you’re checking it off your bucket list. Circle the southern tip of the island where beaches, hiking trails, and old growth forests will leave you spoiled for mini-adventure options. Plus, if you love driving, you’ll get a kick out of the winding route, so make sure to book a whip worth the trip!
