Dreaming of the open road? Introducing Pitch a Trip, a program designed by Turo to help everyday Canadians and aspiring content creators turn their road trip dreams into reality. Today, we’re excited to highlight Yuliia and her partner Den’s adventure to Vancouver Island, where they explored rugged coastlines and witnessed breathtaking sunsets with their beagle, Emmy—all in their dream car, a Land Rover Defender.

The pitch

Yuliia and Den had a clear vision for their getaway: to experience Vancouver Island’s stunning beaches and scenic roads while driving a Land Rover Defender, a vehicle they had always dreamed of trying. They found the perfect match for their adventure, combining off-road capability with modern comfort to make their road trip truly special.

The destination

Vancouver Island is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a mix of pristine beaches, rugged coastlines, and tranquil spots to unwind. Yuliia and Den focused their journey around Tofino and Ucluelet, iconic destinations known for dramatic Pacific Ocean views, massive waves, and serene spots like Long Beach and Half Moon Bay.

The journey

Yuliia, Den, and their energetic beagle Emmy set off from Vancouver, catching the ferry to Vancouver Island. On the way, they were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime moment: spotting orcas for the first time. Though they couldn’t capture the majestic creatures on camera, the memory alone was worth it.

Once on the island, they covered about 800 kilometers, exploring beaches, driving off-road, and soaking in the beauty of the Pacific coast. Emmy couldn’t get enough of the beaches, running joyfully along the shore while Yuliia and Den relaxed and recharged.

Their Defender Land Rover was more than just transportation—it became a part of the adventure. The couple ventured off-road to find secluded spots and captured drone shots of the coastline. Each day ended with spectacular views, but the highlight of the trip was watching the sunset at Half Moon Bay. Alone on the beach with only the sound of crashing waves, Yuliia and Den experienced a moment of pure tranquility and awe.

The highlight of their trip was standing on the Pacific coast for the first time at Half Moon Beach, where massive waves crashed onto the shore, and they had the entire beach to themselves at sunset—a peaceful and unforgettable moment they will cherish forever.

Here’s some advice for those planning a similar adventure:

Be weather-ready: Vancouver Island’s conditions can change quickly, so pack for sunshine, rain, and everything in between.

Book ahead: Ferries can fill up fast during peak seasons. Reserve your spot in advance to avoid last-minute stress.

Take your time: Renting for extra days can be more affordable and gives you the flexibility to enjoy your trip at a relaxed pace.

The Turo experience

Here’s what Yuliia had to say about her experience with Turo:

We had always dreamed of driving a Land Rover Defender, and Turo helped us make that dream a reality,” Yuliia shared. They appreciated how easy it was to find exactly what they wanted through the app, calling it “the most convenient way to rent a special vehicle.” The experience stood out for its transparency and predictability compared to traditional car rentals. “With those companies, you often face uncertainty; for example, they might switch your car at the last minute, which can be frustrating.” Turo’s clear pricing and reliable process made the journey stress-free and enjoyable from start to finish.
