Dreaming of the open road? Introducing Pitch a Trip, a program designed by Turo to help everyday Canadians and aspiring content creators turn their road trip dreams into reality. Today, we’re excited to highlight Lucas’s unforgettable adventure in Alberta, where he and his high school friends explored the snowy backcountry of the Kananaskis area with Turo.
The pitch
Lucas and his four high school friends envisioned a winter getaway filled with adventure, camaraderie, and breathtaking landscapes. Their goal was to explore Alberta’s Kananaskis backcountry through snowshoeing and hiking, pushing their limits while taking in the beauty of the Rockies. With long hours of driving and challenging trails ahead, they needed a reliable and comfortable vehicle that could handle snowy roads and rugged terrain.
The destination
The Kananaskis backcountry is a winter wonderland, offering breathtaking views, challenging trails, and serene lakes. Lucas and his group based their trip in Canmore, a charming town that serves as a gateway to some of Alberta’s most stunning landscapes. Their adventure included hikes to Little Arethusa and Sarrail Ridge, two iconic trails that tested their endurance and rewarded them with unparalleled views.
The journey
The trip began with a drive to the Rockies, where the group marveled at towering peaks and vibrant winter scenery. They made frequent stops along the highway to capture the beauty of the landscape before reaching the base of Little Arethusa. Renting snowshoes, they embarked on a hike that proved more challenging than expected, with steep inclines and deep snow pushing their limits. Despite the difficulty, the group’s shared determination and the stunning vistas kept their spirits high.
After a 10-hour adventure, they returned to their Airbnb for an evening of laughter, recovery, and preparation for the next day’s ambitious hike.
Determined to make the most of their time, the group set out for Sarrail Ridge in the early morning darkness. The comfortable heated seats and smooth handling of their Turo car made the pre-dawn drive stress-free. Reaching Rawson Lake just as the sun began to rise, they were treated to a magical scene: the frozen lake reflecting the surrounding peaks in the soft morning light.
The trail to Sarrail Ridge became steeper, but the panoramic views at the summit made every step worth it. Standing above the clouds with the Rockies stretching in every direction, Lucas and his friends shared a moment of awe and accomplishment that will stay with them forever.
