Dreaming of the open road? Introducing Pitch a Trip, a program designed by Turo to help everyday Canadians and aspiring content creators turn their road trip dreams into reality. Today, we’re excited to share Ben’s unforgettable two-part adventure, where he explored two very different sides of Canadian culture and landscapes, from the rugged charm of Nova Scotia’s coast to the awe-inspiring peaks of Alberta’s Rockies.
The pitch
Ben wanted to experience Canada at its finest — coast to coast, with time to slow down and take it all in. His plan? Start in Nova Scotia to soak up the relaxed East Coast lifestyle, then fly west to Alberta for the iconic Calgary Stampede and the breathtaking drives through Banff and Jasper National Parks. In each province, he rented a RAV4 through Turo, giving him the freedom to explore at his own pace and on his own schedule.
The destination
Nova Scotia offered a slower rhythm, stunning coastlines, and small-town charm. Ben started at the world-famous Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse, before heading to Parrsboro to spend a few days hiking, beachcombing, and reconnecting with family.
Alberta brought a completely different energy. After a cowboy-filled few days at the Calgary Stampede, Ben hit the road for Banff and Jasper National Parks, where towering peaks, turquoise lakes, and wildlife encounters made every moment unforgettable.
The journey
In Nova Scotia, Ben picked up his RAV4 right at the airport — a quick, seamless handoff that set the tone for the trip. His first stop, Peggy’s Cove, was a must-see, though he learned the hard way to arrive early for parking. From there, he drove to Parrsboro, a peaceful coastal town perfect for hiking, clamming on the beach, and enjoying life at a slower pace.
After returning the car (a 5-minute drop-off), Ben flew west to Calgary for the Stampede. A few days later, he picked up his second RAV4 and set off for the Rockies. Having his own vehicle made all the difference — he could stop at scenic lookouts on a whim, take last-minute detours, and linger at spots like Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, and the Banff Upper Hot Springs.
The highlight? Driving from Banff to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway, pulling over more than 30 times to photograph the sweeping mountain views, glaciers, and the Columbia Icefield. “I can’t imagine doing this trip without a car,” Ben said. “Transit would’ve been the biggest mistake of my life.”
Pro tips:
Book the right vehicle for your trip: For mountains and unpredictable weather, a RAV4 or similar SUV is ideal.
Stop often: Some of the best moments happen when you pull over for an unexpected view or hidden trail.
Use social media for local tips: Up-to-date travel info can help you find the best spots, from food to photography.
Plan parking: Arrive early at popular sites like Peggy’s Cove or Moraine Lake.
The Turo experience
Here’s what Ben had to say about his experience with Turo:
“Booking was easy, great website and app to find what I need. Pick-ups/drop-offs were flawless, hosts were on-time and vehicles very clean, I got exactly what I expected each time and I continue to be a big fan of Turo for my travels. SO much better [than traditional car rental], no price gouging, you get what you want and see prices prior to booking. The app makes it super easy to upload photos and videos for before/after, and I haven’t had to use it but the insurance coverage Turo offers seems good as well. Vehicles tend to be in better condition as the hosts typically care more from my experience.”
Turo offers a wide selection of vehicles to fit any budget, style, and occasion. Whether you’re looking for a compact car for a quick getaway, an SUV for a family road trip, or an EV for an eco-friendly adventure, Turo has you covered.
