Turo will be available in Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island on May 17! Car owners interested in listing their vehicle ahead of our guest launch can learn more below.
After launching in Nova Scotia in 2019, our wheels started turning with plans to bring Turo to the rest of eastern Canada. And for good reason, too. The East boasts rich history, seaside views, and beautiful architecture that make for a trip to remember.
This expansion couldn’t have come at a better time. With a potential rental car shortage on the horizon, similar to what happened last year, and people eager to travel, visitors to the region can rest easy knowing they can enjoy a unique, community-based mode of transportation that supports local hosts.
“We are proud to provide a safe and convenient car sharing solution to help alleviate the traditional car rental crunch, especially when the travel industry is set to grow this summer,” says Cedric Mathieu, VP of Canada, Turo. “This launch gives local communities a unique business opportunity to turn a vehicle, that on average sits idle 95% of the time, into a new stream of income. It also gives guests an extraordinary selection of cars to experience during their time in visiting Atlantic Canada.”
To help meet the expected high demand for cars, Turo partnered with Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island Provincial Governments to accelerate its expansion into these provinces ahead of the summer peak.
“The launch of Turo in our province is a great step forward for our tourism and hospitality industry,” says the Honourable Steve Crocker, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation. Everyone is aware of the rental car shortages affecting all of North America and this will provide a great new option for tourists to our province, especially given that this year is Come Home year in Newfoundland and Labrador. We anticipate a lot of interest in this new service.”
It also presents an exciting entrepreneurial opportunity for east coast car owners.
“Islanders are well-known for both their hospitality and entrepreneurship,” says Kirk Nicholson, chair of Transportation Committee, Tourism Industry Association of PEI. “Car sharing is a new opportunity that PEI small business owners and individuals can get behind. This extra income is a great way for Islanders to help pay for the cost of owning a vehicle.”
We’re thrilled to welcome new hosts and guests to our global community, who will soon be able to enjoy the availability, affordability, flexibility, and variety we offer. Since its launch in Canada in 2016, Turo has rapidly expanded its car sharing platform to over 1.2 million members and 53,000 cars, making us the largest car sharing marketplace in the country. Eastern Canada joins other Turo hubs in Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia.
Our community thrives on a mutually-beneficial platform where visitors have a chance to support the local population and car owners have a chance to start their own business and increase local mobility options. Turo steps in by ensuring our guests have a great experience and our hosts have the protection they need to share their cars with ease. That’s why we make available a protection plan that includes up to $2 million in insurance for third party liability from our insurance partner Economical, offer 24/7 roadside assistance, and provide customer support seven days a week.
