DeLorean on the red carpet

The Toronto International Film Festival is a favourite destination for film culture aficionados to attend exclusive parties, screen the latest movies, and indulge in some good old-fashioned celebrity spotting on the red carpet.

This year, Turo stole the spotlight with this 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, which was provided by local Turo host Christopher J. Featuring gull-wing doors and brushed stainless steel body panels, the DeLorean is an all-time favourite for many movie buffs, as the car was largely popularized by the 1980’s Back to the Future franchise.

While DeLorean ceased production of the DMC-12 in 1983, this iconic car continues to be the darling of modern cinematography, including Nick Hamm’s 2018 film, Driven, which made its North American premiere this week at the festival. The film follows the meteoric rise and fall of automotive maverick John DeLorean and his drug dealer-turned-informant neighbour, who worked with the authorities to bring the inventor down.

The all-star cast includes Lee Pace, Jason Sudeikis, Judy Greer, and Corey Stroll, all of whom got to experience the DeLorean in downtown Toronto at TIFF and accompanied the vehicle on the red carpet. If you’re in the Toronto area, have your own movie star experience and try driving the the DeLorean for yourself!
