Melbourne host Neha left her corporate job to run a fleet of eight cars on Turo. Her secret to scaling fast? The patience and precision that comes from motherhood.

Melbourne host Neha isn’t someone who leaves things to chance. With a background in corporate finance and health insurance, she approaches asset management with a sharp, analytical eye and a clear focus on the numbers. So when she and her husband, Janak, noticed their spare Audi Q5 sitting idle, they realized they were sitting on an un-leveraged revenue stream.

Today, Neha has turned that single SUV into a thriving multi-vehicle fleet on Turo. The revenue allowed her to permanently step away from her nine-to-five job, providing the income and freedom to build her true passion project: an independent fashion label.

For Neha, hosting on Turo isn’t “passive income.” It’s a real, hands-on business that rewards strategic planning, meticulous standards, and human hospitality.

How one Audi turned into an 8-car fleet

Neha admits she didn’t start out with a deep passion for cars. “I am not enthusiastic about cars –  my husband is,” she says.

The turning point came when the couple planned a month-long trip overseas, leaving their spare Audi Q5 parked in the driveway. Janak began researching alternative ways to keep the asset productive and stumbled upon Turo. Impressed by the intuitive user experience and the ability for guests to book the exact make and model they wanted, rather than a generic vehicle class as with traditional car rental, they decided to list the SUV.

Their first booking came in immediately. Within 45 minutes of being listed, the vehicle was booked for 45 consecutive days.

“When we saw the amount of money that we received, we realised we could turn this into a business,” said Neha.

Using motherhood to her advantage

To scale from one car to eight, Neha and Janak divided the business according to their strengths. Janak helps with choosing the cars, while Neha runs daily operations, guest relations, and vehicle handovers.

Rather than viewing family life as a scheduling conflict, Neha uses motherhood to her distinct advantage.

Motherhood teaches you to be patient, organized, and disciplined with your routine,” Neha explains. “That naturally gravitated into managing bookings and communicating on time with guests.

Stepping away from corporate life allowed Neha to take back control of her time. With her three-year-old daughter in daycare three days a week, Neha splits her energy between managing bookings and building her upcoming children’s fashion label.

Turo has given us the financial freedom I needed to step away from my job and look after my family. Now I’m following my passion. I’m a creative person, and hosting on Turo gave me the opportunity to follow my dreams.

Motherhood meets mobility: Neha balancing family life with fleet management, while leveraging lessons from motherhood to optimise her business

Ready, set, scale!

Currently managing an active fleet of eight vehicles, Neha has been able to reinvest her earnings into other revenue opportunities. A key driver of her high profitability has been her enthusiastic adoption of Turo’s dynamic pricing tool, which adjusts listing rates based on real-time demand spikes.

Looking ahead, Neha is strategically transitioning her fleet toward electric vehicles (EVs) to match shifting traveler demands amid rising fuel costs. Demand for her Tesla has surged, recently securing a massive 7-month continuous booking.

Her goal is to expand the portfolio to 15 vehicles by the end of the financial year, growing the business she now runs as her full-time career.

Neha’s tips for aspiring hosts

  • Commit completely to your goals: Success on the platform is directly tied to your drive and willingness to show up for the work. “It all depends on how willing you are and how badly you want to do it,” Neha advises.
  • Prioritize face-to-face handovers: Meeting guests in person builds human warmth, sets clear expectations, and allows you to guide first-time guests through the app’s check-in photo steps to protect both parties.
  • Master your unit economics: Treat your vehicles like serious investments. Track the incoming revenue, maintenance, insurance costs, and breakeven points so you know when to expand
